šŸ§Ŗ Introducing: The Sheconomist

Helping women flip the script on money, career & wellbeing conventions

Hi there šŸ‘‹ Itā€™s Thamina, Founder of The Sheconomist. You might be wondering why youā€™re receiving this email. Some of you might have read my ā€œWhat Women Need to Know about Investingā€ E-Book, some of you might know me from my podcasts Femme Hive and/or Give Her Dollars, and some of you might be dear (former) coworkers, friends, and supporters.

Either way, I invite you to join me on this new(sletter) journey Iā€™m embarking on. To me, this feels like a culmination of a lot of the work Iā€™ve been doing in the womenā€™s advancement space over the years. Iā€™m new to the email space and will learn and grow alongside you. I welcome your feedback so I can continue to add as much value to your lives as possible. This is just the beginning and will gradually evolve over time.

Consider this your bi-weekly dose of celebrating the female economy where I help ambitious, purpose-driven women like yourselves flip the script on money, career & wellbeing conventions so you can live life on your own terms.

šŸ”„ Why The Sheconomist Exists

I was raised in a non-traditional, feminist household and from a very young age, I was encouraged to forge my own path.

Forging my own path and cultivating a ā€˜steely determinationā€™ (as my college roommate put it) has allowed me to beat the odds over and over again.

From getting accepted to study abroad at Harvard, Columbia, Cornell, and Duke, winning several industry awards and being shortlisted for Forbes 30 Under 30, to being featured in the media, serving on boards, being on track to retire with a 8-figure net worth and getting to work in the iconic Empire State Building in New York City - I know a thing or two about what it takes to forge your own path.

(the good, the bad, and everything in between)

I have individually mentored and coached dozens of women, including college students, recent graduates, peers in Big Tech, and Fortune 200 leaders. My online content has generated millions of impressions.

And after years in the DEI space and continuously educating myself on womenā€™s economic advancement while making significant progress on my own personal and professional goals, frankly, I believe that we women need to start playing a different game. A game that we can win.

Because the rules that apply to men donā€™t apply to us.

We need to unlearn some of the patriarchal beliefs and conventional ā€˜wisdomā€™ weā€™ve been conditioned to internalize.

This newsletter is here to inspire, educate, and challenge you.

All in service of helping YOU build a life on your own terms. A life that is joyful and abundant, based on freedom, purpose, and self-expression.

šŸ§Ŗ Freedom Formulas

To white men, money is about power and control.

To women, money is about freedom, choice, and breaking barriers.

As I always like to say:

āœØ A wealthy woman can walk out of almost every room she feels uncomfortable in and create opportunities for other women along the way. āœØ

Wealth = Freedom

In order to figure out how truly wealthy you are, I would encourage you to ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Do I own my schedule or does it own me?

  2. Am I trading time for money? And if so, am I doing it in a purpose-driven, impactful way?

  3. Am I compromising my core values without it serving a higher purpose?

  4. If I were to die tomorrow, would I be proud of the legacy I leave behind?

Now, this process might make you a little uncomfortable. Because the answers youā€™re giving yourself today might not the answers you wanna hear.

(Same for me, btw!)

So I invite you to sit with that for a bit.

Take the next few days and weeks to reflect and figure out what you need to do next in order to become truly wealthy.

Over the coming months (and hopefully years), I will guide you through that self-transformation, so you can become happier, healthier, and wealthier.

Did you know you can invest in gender equality-themed ETFs?

Thematic ETF investing has become increasingly popular in recent years. Gender equality-themed ETFs such as WOMN, EQUL, SHE, or MWMN are designed to deliver exposure to global companies that promote gender equality and are committed to womenā€™s empowerment through equal compensation and gender balance in leadership and the workforce.

Are the portfolio holdings of those ETFs - as in the companies the ETFs are invested in - completely equitable? Very unlikely.

But itā€™s still an opportunity to ā€œvote with your dollarsā€.

Other popular thematic ETFs include clean energy, gaming, AI, and cloud computing for example.
