🧪 Freedom Formulas
Instead of solely focusing on climbing the corporate ladder, imagine how much happier and more fulfilled we could be by optimizing for:
✅ Alignment with our personal values
✅ A sense of purpose
✅ Our preferred lifestyle
✅ The type of people we want to surround ourselves with
Redefining success on our own terms is possible.
But how?
Start by asking yourself these questions:
1) Which self-limiting beliefs are holding me back?
➡️ Identify the negative thoughts and assumptions that keep you from pursuing what truly matters to you. Challenge these beliefs and replace them with empowering ones.
I personally constantly alternate between “trusting the process” and deeply fearing that I will not live up to my potential (my biggest fear in life). It’s gotten better over the years as I’ve grown in more self-confidence, but lately I’ve been feeling that I am running out of time despite rationally knowing that it’s never too late for anything. (Vera Wang was 40 when she started, Arianna Huffington was 55 when she launched the Huffington Post)
2) What are my core values?
➡️ Reflect on the principles that guide your decisions and actions. Make a list of your top values and ensure that your career choices align with them.
For me: Freedom, Self-Actualization, Authenticity, Achievement
3) What gives me a sense of purpose?
➡️ Think about what drives you and brings you joy. Consider how you can incorporate this purpose into your professional life.
For me it’s being a cheerleader for other women and helping them become their own best advocates when it comes to their money, career & wellbeing. Whenever I receive messages from women all over the world that my content has inspired them to ask for a raise, start investing, schedule a consultation with a fertility clinic, turn down an unpaid speaking gig or enforce her boundaries in other areas of her life, I light up. It’s the best feeling ever.
4) What lifestyle do I truly desire?
➡️ Envision your ideal day-to-day life. What kind of work environment, schedule, and activities would make you happiest? Seek opportunities that support this vision.
I envision a life outside the confinements of a traditional 9-5, meaning having full control over my time where I can say YES to people and opportunities that truly excite me and say NO to people, institutions, and environments that no longer serve me.
This Reel describes it perfectly. THIS is what motivates me to work towards true financial independence.
5) Who are the people I want to surround myself with?
➡️ Identify the types of individuals who inspire, support, and challenge you. Build a network of mentors, peers, and friends who share your values and aspirations.
It’s the yay sayers, the big dreamers, the people who don’t complain but get shit done that I want to surround myself with. It’s unsurprising that those people are often entrepreneurs or people who unapologetically carve out their own paths. For example, the coolest and most fearless person I know is my friend Jana who is researching hyenas in the Maasai Mara in Kenya. She’s lived in a research camp in a national park for years now and visiting her 3 years ago had a profound impact on my life.
We can all climb the career ladder.
But sometimes the ladder is leaning against the wrong wall.
